February 4 to February 11, 2008
Depart Los Angeles with Qantas on their non-stop service to Melbourne.
Day 1
Arrive Melbourne early morning where you will transfer to a domestic flight to
Launceston. Private coach transfer to the Hatherley House, winner of Conde Nast
Traveler, best new 80 hotels in the world. Reconvene for welcome dinner at Stillwater
Restaurant, winner of the Renault Haute Cuisine Award for Best Australian Restaurant.
Day 2
A day trip to meet chefs and winemakers of the Tamar Valley. We meet winemaker,
Natalie Fryar for sparkling wine tastings at the Jansz winery in Pipers Brook.
Afterwards, Chef Daniel Alps will give us a cooking demonstration at his restaurant
Strathlynn, overlooking the Tamar River. Chef Alps will also be our host for
a tasting meal with matching wines this evening.
Day 3
Depart Launceston and head to Deloraine--stop for a tasting and tour of the Leatherwood
Honey farm. Continue onto Cradle Mountain Lodge in the Tasmanian wilderness.
Afternoon to relax, hike or discover the spa. Dinner in the acclaimed Cradle
Mountain restaurant.
Day 4
Depart Cradle Mountain and head for Freycinet Bay where we will take a tour and
tasting at Andrea Cole's oyster farm. BBQ on the terrace of Freycinet Lodge overlooking
the bay.
Day 5
Morning to sleep late, swim or go for a hike to Wineglass Bay. After lunch we
will have a cooking demonstration and class using all local produce.
Day 6
Depart Freycinet and travel south to Hobart. Accommodation is at Moorilla Estate
Vineyard which is Hobart's first, 5-star-accommodation. The chalet-style units
are perched on the edge of a cliff to offer sensational views over the water.
Each room has a private wine cellar featuring over 60 wines from Moorilla and
St Matthias. This evening we will sample a tasting meal with matching wines in
the antiquities museum of the Moorilla Estate Vineyard.
Day 7
Coach to Salamanca Market in Hobart, a wonderful outdoor market next to the port.
Rest of the day to shop or wander. Dinner at Mit Zitrone and coach back to Moorilla Estate.
Day 11
Morning departure via catarmaran to Hobart Airport for Melbourne and Los Angeles. |
