Along with its superb food and wine, Piemonte is the birthplace of the Slow Food Movement and is famous for its white truffles, creamy cheeses, elegant wines and rich chocolates. It also boasts picturesque hill towns, elegant cities and stunning mountain vistas. You'll visit opulant baroque cafes in Turin, bustling produce markets, hunt for truffles in Alba, meet wine makers and make some of the regional specialties such as vitello tonnato and ravioli del Plin.
Piemonte, which means, foot of the mountain, is rightfully named as many of its premier vineyards are at the foot of the Alps. When you think of Piemonte, several of the most notable and well recognized wines, such as Barolo, Barbaresco and Dolcetto, come to mind. Many of the greatest vineyards (crus) are shared amongst many different families.
Day 1 - Turin
Arrival and private transfer to 4* Hotel. In the late afternoon: Meeting with the guide at the hotel for a visit of some historic Cafes: Cafe Platti and Cafe Mulassano, stop at Baratti e Milano in San Carlo square for a bicerin tasting.
Day 2 - Turin & Venaria Royal Palace
Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with your private guide at the hotel in the morning for a guided tour of Historic Turin including Royal Savoia Palace, Piazza Castello, Piazza Carlo Felice, and Mole Antonelliana.
Transfer to the Reggia di Venaria (Unesco Heritage), created as hunting lodges and places of pleasure of the Royal Savoy family. Enjoy a Merenda Sinoira for lunch at the restaurant prepared by starred chef Alfredo Russo. Merenda Sinoira is a typical small but substantial meal which peasant families used to have at around 5pm to restore their energy after a hard afternoon's work. This custom is now being revived by many bars throughout the region, mainly as a pleasant social ritual and it consists of cold dishes, toma and tomina cheeses, charcuterie, fried foods and comes with a good glass of wine! Transfer back to your hotel in Turin.
Day 3 - The Langhe
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer with your car and English speaking driver through the Langhe area, where you will visit two of the most esteemed wineries for select tastings, followed by lunch of local specialties. Continue to your 4 star hotel, a few steps from the Grinzane Cavour Castle and surrounded by vineyards.
Day 4 - Truffle Hunt & Cheese Dairy
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to a nearby white truffle field where where you will meet with a trufalaio [truffle hunter] who will show you how to find them and everything you ever wanted to know about truffles. This afternoon, visit a cheese farm in Bossolasco for a cheese tasting. Transfer back to your hotel.s
Day 5 - Cooking Lesson & Winery
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, a hands-on cooking lesson with the chef at the hotel. Prepare a complete Piemontese menu. Lunch will follow. This afternoon, transfer for a visit of a flagship winery for a wine tasting and dinner at the winery restaurant.
Day 6 - Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Private transfer to Turin airport.
